Roxbury Latin School: A Blueprint for Growth at a Prestigious Private School

Our client had concerns about planning for the long-term capital needs of its existing buildings and needed technical and business guidance on the costs, options and timing related to Capital Planning and upgrades of the campus. C3 completed a technical review of the entire campus to develop a long-term Capital Planning needs report. Within this report we also listed opportunities for upgrading the building systems and technology infrastructure which the school chose to implement. After the Capital Planning was complete, C3 performed MEP Engineering and Project Management for an entire new central heating plant and designed a central cooling plant to air condition the campus for the first time in its history. Concurrent with the MEP Engineering, C3’s Building Envelope group prepared plans and managed a multi-year preservation effort on the facades, roofs, and windows. Our code group reviewed options for gaining space within existing buildings which led to over 10,000 SF of new space being made available within an existing attic. This space will provide the school with growth at a fraction of the cost of building an addition from the ground up. The result is a state-of-the-art and energy-efficient central plant, recovered space within existing buildings, a phased repair of building envelopes, and a tool to allow for continued future capital planning with C3’s ongoing support.
