Expertise / Building Envelope

Keeping the weather out is the most basic of all architectural and engineering tasks – and all the more urgent in this age of energy conservation. At C3, our engineers are certified to hang from building facades and personally inspect every glass pane, mullion, spandrel and seal; we take an equally keen eye to the roof, sub-grade waterproofing, plaza decks and the skylights. We are able to facilitate the necessary collaboration between architect and engineer – we marry the technical side to artistic and visual considerations, and assemble peer review and quality control sessions as needed to accomplish the task at hand.

We educate owners on their building’s physical condition within the context of their needs and wants – always taking the owner’s mindset, we seek to understand their strategic vision for the asset. Recommendations may be substantially different for a Development Advisory client who plans to hold a building for three years versus a school board looking to own a complex in perpetuity.

Through Expertise, A Seal of Confidence

As is often called for, we can explain complex technical issues to non-technical people – investment managers, accountants, school boards and other client groups. A compromised building envelope – a leaking roof, a flooded basement – can be an owner’s worst nightmare because it is so high profile – and potentially damaging to a property owner’s or school’s reputation. As such we employ the latest thinking and technology to assure that there is nothing less than a building sealed completely and absolutely – we have a zero tolerance for errors in this most crucial engineering task.
